Truth is, I never use to be a morning person. It took me a long time to get into a routine where I could actually enjoy getting up early and easing into the day.

I had to break the habit of working late into the night, which was often. Now I’m in a much better space to organize my day in a way that works on every level. I have a set bedtime and try to stick to it every night. Lately I’ve been going into our room 15 mins before heading to bed to do little things that might seem insignificant, but for me, have really aided in transitioning to getting to bed early to read for 30 mins before turning out the lights and going to sleep. We go to bed at 10:30 and I wake up every morning a 7am.

I take a few mins before bed to turn down our sheets to make it comfy, turn on my Saje marble diffuser with relaxing essential oils (has helped keep our master smelling fresh & helps both of us sleep better), and fill my 24 ounce water bottle with ice, fresh water and some lemon so it’s at my bedside for when I wake up.


Creating little morning rituals can make all the difference when it comes to running a successful day. The first thing I do after waking up and drinking my water is put on my robe, make my bed and wash my face. After my morning skincare routine I head to the kitchen to make myself my first coffee of the day.

We have a Nespresso VertuoPlus and I love how quick and easy it is for me to get a perfect cup of hot coffee in the morning. I always thought Nespresso machines would be complicated to use (before we had one) but it’s literally the simplest thing. All you do is choose your coffee capsule, press two buttons and you’re done.

We both love strong, bold coffee flavours and lately our favourites are; Elvazio, Intenso and we also love the iced coffee capsules. The barcode reads differently and doesn’t warm the water so you get this delicious cold brew over ice. Perfect for summer.

After my coffee has brewed I take it over to the couch and sit with my dog for a few minutes to enjoy. During this time I like to light a candle or maybe a palo santo stick for incense and feel into my day. What I mean by that is just that I think about my day and how I want it to go. I take a few mins to prioritize what needs to be done in the day and make a list & plan of action.

This is what the rest of my morning might look like:

  • take Xavi for a walk
  • tend to my inbox
  • engage on social media + post blogs/new photo
  • go for my workout

Fitting some of these things into your routine might require getting a slightly earlier start to your day if you’re heading out to work but they are worth it once you make it a routine! I can’t explain it other than it just sets the tone for the rest of your day and allows some quiet space before the regular craziness sets in.
