If you’ve never been, Scandinave is an outdoor wellness spa nestled on 3 acres of property overlooking Whistler’s incredible mountain landscape. Breathtaking! Guests can go in for massage therapy or enjoy the day at the Scandinavian baths experience, which is also known as hydrotherapy, or thermal therapy. Thermal therapy is known for it’s energizing and relaxing properties, but the baths also cleanse the skin, improve physical conditioning , and promote a sense of well-being.
To get the full benefits that the spa has to offer, it is recommended that guests follow the hot-cold-rest circut.
I’ve broken down the details below:
FIRST, HOT [15 mins]:
The first thermal therapy stage increases your body temperature which dilates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure, and increasing blood flow to the skin & muscles. The increase in body temp causes considerable perspiration, which helps cleanse the skin and release the body’s negative energy. The dry sauna is the hottest installation of the thermal journey. I love the eucalyptus steam bath & the wood burning sauna.
Guests can experience in any of the following:
+ Eucalyptus steam baths
+ Wood burning sauna
+ Finnish sauna
+ Hot baths
THEN, COLD [30 sec]:
The second step causes the pores of the skin to close trapping previously absorbed heat, and increasing blood pressure thus priming the body to eliminate toxins and the muscles to release tension. A dip in the cold plunge helps to release endorphins, and increase your heart rate. This stage is where you will receive the most benefit of the hot-cold-relax circuit, but also, the most challenging.
Guests can experience in any of the following:
+ Nordic waterfall
+ Nordic showers
+ Cold plunge baths
AND, RELAX [15 mins]:
The final stage in the cycle is designed to allow the cardiovascular system to regulate itself. After spending time in hot + cold environments, it’s recommended to rest the body to help stabilize blood flow & heart rate. During this step, resting helps the body resume normal blood circulation and heart rate.
Guests can enjoy this final step in any of the following areas:
+ solariums
+ fireplace lounge
+ heated hammocks
+ outdoor fireplaces
+ yoga studio
Every time I come here, I leave feeling completely refreshed and revitalized. First of all, it’s got to be the most beautiful spa location I’ve ever been to. I’ve visited during all seasons and it’s always magical, especially when it snows. Having the day to do a digital detox (no phone) is so very needed. We don’t realize how mindless we are about setting boundaries around the phone and how we use it. When was the last time you just turned it off, and was present, in the moment? In addition to absolutely no phones, this spa has a very strict no talking policy, as well which I love. And then, doing the hot-cold circuit almost like shocks the system and gives you tons of energy & clarity. I like to book the day off, take my time and spend a minimum of 3 hours doing the circuit.
ALL THE BENEFITS:
+ Improved sleep quality
+ Improved physical performance
+ Stimulates the immune system
+ Flushes out toxins
+ Improved skin appearance
+ Improved blood flow
+ Improved digestion
+ Slows body aging
+ Supports mental health
+ Fosters calm & introspection
+ Reduces fatigue
+ Releases tension
+ Improves memory & alertness
A FEW THINGS TO NOTE:
+ DIGITAL DETOX: there is no wi-fi at the Scandinave Spa, but you’ll find a better connection.
+ SOAK IN SILENCE: there is absolutely no talking at this spa.
+ CHILD-FREE ZONE: this spa is reserved for 18+
+ STAY HYDRATED: tea + water stations are available on-site.
