This topic comes from a follower reader who reached out on DM to tell me she wanted to see a post about how to style basics. I immediately added it to the list because I practically live in basics.
While they do seem well.. basic, they can also be super versatile and styled in unlimited ways, ultimately saving you [hard earned] money. Basics serve as the base of your look, its up to you to style them to give it that ‘je ne said quoi’. NOTHING I wear is overly fussy, “high end” or complicated and that’s just the way I like it. Just like in your home, it’s not so much the contents but how you style them that make them great.
There are also some times in life when you just have to work with what you have (speaking from experience) and that might mean re-evaluating your spending strategy and investing in a few key pieces that you can wear again and again, season-to-season. Being able to mix & match and create lots of different looks will serve you and your wallet much better in the end.
These are 5 basic staples I have in my closet for spring:
- pair of distressed mom jeans
- white / neutral hoodie pullover
- black turtleneck bodysuit
- neutral pair of heels
- pair of fun mules
None of these pieces were unreasonably expensive and I know I’ll get lots of use out of them because they can be worn lots of different ways throughout the spring and summer. In other words, a win-win.
