Wanna know Vancouver’s best kept secret? Contemplated even telling you….
There’s a charming little store in the heart of Kerrisdale that has been run by the same family for four generations or since 1921. Would you believe it if I told you this little gem is Kerrisdale Lumber Co. Sure, they do carry lumber and all kinds of building supplies I’m sure my husband would love/need. I, on the other hand am dying over the decor portion of the store. Let me tell you – their buyer knows what she’s doing.
This store is a combination of a few of my local faves which I really love because it means I don’t have to make multiple trips if I need to pick up a gift, card or decor for our home. The best way I can describe it is a mix of Chapters Indigo meets a hint of The Cross. They carry everything from BBQ’s to hardware and outdoor kitchens but I would like to break down my favourite sections of the decor shop.
Recently I stopped in to grab a few things we were missing for our home for the holidays. Since getting everything up for Christmas, (countdown is on) I wanted to share my laundry list of items I loved from my visit in case you are local to Vancouver and wanted to check it out yourself:
christmas tree | window garland | throw pillows | star tree ornaments | gold rimmed candle votives | lamp | floor lamp | wall prints
wood tray | prayer beads | matches | gold marble diffuser | gold trimmed votive
pom pom garland from Kerrisdale Lumber Co.
festive table runner | candle stick holders | tassel tablecloth holder
Gifts for him: whiskey ice molds + matchsticks + Barr-Co. cream + pocket cardholder + catchall
from Kerrisdale Lumber Co.
balsamic vinegars for the hostess + cleaning supplies for the homebody + party supplies + barware all from Kerrisdale Lumber Co.
Here’s my laundry list of favourites from Kerrisdale Lumber Co:
Candles: you should know by now I am obsessed with candles. Kerrisdale Lumber carries a large selection of candles, both scented and purely decoration in all shapes & sizes including tea lights, one of our favourite to have lit at home. Last time I came in I picked up these gorgeous, vintage looking gold rimmed votives for tea lights.
Homewares: for the homebody or the hostess, they’ve got something for everyone on your list including everything from teak cutting boards and cooking accessories to place settings, glassware, serving platters and trays. The next time I create a gift basket for someone I’m going to just come here.
Kitchen + Entertaining: balsamic vinegars, jelly, cheese platters and accessories whether you’re collecting for a party or gifting to a friend – lots of options!
Cleaning supplies: no joke, one of my favourite isles in any store is the cleaning supplies. Nice to see them carrying a range of products including natural brands using less chemicals.
Mens Section: the one hang-up I usually run into each Christmas is when it comes to the men in my life. For whatever reason they always turn out to be the toughest to shop for. In one small corner I found unique cardholders, pocket knives, whisky ice trays, desk catchalls and other things I know my husband would love. May or may not have picked up a few things for his stocking this year.
Bath: I love decor shops that have a self-care section. Lush face towels, beautifully wrapped & branded hand soaps, body lotions & creams and small accessories for home like the marble soap dish I picked up for mine. While I do plan on using it as a soap dish, I also plan to double it as a jewelry tray. It’s not easy to find marble items like that that are reasonably priced and good quality.
Party shop: in the back of the store there is a whole party section complete with unique birthday candles, matchstick sets, paper table runners and a large selection of Rifle Paper Co. cards. Finally a one-stop shop experience to pull together an impromptu celebration or gift.
Whats even better (than all this, I know), their pricing is extremely reasonable.
Kerrisdale Lumber is currently undergoing expansion and I am so happy to let you know that they will be opening up TWO new stores near their currently location in 2019! One will be more of a general store (home decor, hardware, paint, bbq’s) and the other will become a building supply store (hardware, lumber and other building supplies). I’m excited to see how they develop and grow and how they’re stores will come to life! I’ll be sure to keep you posted on the developments as they come.
This post is in partnership with Kerrisdale Lumber Co. As always, all opinions are my own.
