PROJECT SKIN

If you follow along on my Snapchat channel (sydneysocias) then you would have seen my appointment with Project Skin MD yesterday – and you may have also caught me sharing some very personal details regarding the state of my skin and the troubles it’s been causing as of late. It’s been a long-awaited process and one that will take some work and time on my part, but that I’m very fortunate, thankful and SO happy to be working through.

Project Skin is a centre for dermatology, laser and anti-aging medicine and home to North America’s first SkinCeuticals Advanced Clinical Spa. If you remember this post where I shared my skincare regime, you know that I am a huge believer in SkinCeuticals products – they seriously work like magic.

And while I have used SkinCeuticals for years with little issue, I’ve recently been dealing with non-stop breakouts which have lead to scarring and mild rosacea. Not to mention I was diagnosed with melasma above my lip two years ago and it’s something I’m constantly working to protect and keep to minimum visibility… Then tack on the fact that my job requires a lot of on-camera moments, photos, videos….. you can imagine how embarrassing and self conscious it can be to have skin issues to hide from the world.

SO, last week I met with Dr. McGillivray to discuss my options and he set me up with a personalized regime to help manage these issues day-to-day (see below for updated SkinCeuticals regiment). Then we booked the Vascular Laser treatment, which was what I had done yesterday! It only took 20 minutes and was virtually painless. What the Vascular Laser treatment does is to target facial veins, vessels and red spots/scarring using laser energy and zaps them until they are no longer visible. While it effectively addresses a multitude of vascular lesions on the face (and body), in my case we wanted to diffuse any redness I’d been experiencing, help diminish the appearance of acne scars and help calm the melasma above my lip.

Since I just had the treatment yesterday, it’s too soon to tell how much it’s really made a difference in the clarity of my skin. Project Skin recommends doing a series of treatments, however each case is different and there have been many patients who have seen incredible improvements after just one session. We will have to see to find out!

I hope you found this post helpful, if you can relate to some of the issues I’ve been having. Please feel free to comment with any questions you have, I’m always happy to answer them. My goal for this summer is to be able to be foundation-free and this is just the first step!

While I was at Project Skin the team caught me up on some of the top skincare products you shouldn’t live without this summer, so I thought you’d like to know too:
