If only humans showed as much compassion as animals, the world would be a better place! I recently went through a really challenging time after losing my Grandfather on August 11th. Anyone who knows me, knows how incredibly special he was to me and how influential he has been in shaping my life.
It’s been a tough pill to swallow, while not entirely unexpected at 89 yo. So, I tried my best to carry on with regular programming but couldn’t find one ounce of energy or motivation to do so — 6 days of silence. No blog posts, no Instagram posts, no Stories, nothing but a cloud of memories, sadness and disbelief. I needed that time to sit in the sadness and process what had happened and how life would change afterward.
It’s crazy how intuitive animals are and how they can feel and know whats going on without being told. We are pretty much joined at the hip anyways but Xavi never left my side during that whole week. He somehow knew that I was off and upset and wanted to comfort me as much as he could. People don’t always feel as warm and supportive. When you’re knee deep in heartbreak suddenly the most minute act of kindness doubles tenfold. I will never ever forget the ones who went out of their way to let me know they were there, that they saw me and that they were sending love.
The lesson learned here, is that kindness is never overrated. You never really know what someone might be going through or what challenges they’re overcoming. We are all just trying to do our best, each and everyday. Life can get tough, so when you are scrolling through your Instagram feed, have compassion, show some support and always be kind to every kind.
