4 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU’RE DOWN

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my almost 33 years it’s that success, and life for that matter is not linear. It comes with it’s up’s and down’s which can certainly feel like they take me off my game.

So much of my job is to share; my life, my routines, my recommendations… so when something’s bothering or weighing on me it can run the risk of really fucking up my shit. I hate to be blunt, but there’s honestly N-O-T-H-I-N-G in this world more frustrating than working my ass off to keep consistent and keep moving the needle forward, only to have my hard work stunted because I had a few days where I didn’t feel myself — for whatever the reason.

You know, days when you just wake up feeling ‘off’. Or maybe you’ve just experienced some family/friend drama and still recovering, whatever the case, it’s no bueno to the tenth degree. When I have these days, it literally feels like all goes to hell in a hand basket. Things don’t go as planned and it ends up feeling like I’m hitting my head against the wall, getting nowhere fast.

I’ve learned when this happens — to let go. Completely. I can tell when I’m having a day so when they happen now I clear my schedule and listen to what my body/mind needs. I’m no expert by any means, but I’ve gone through [and still going through] my fair share of shit. I get it, and have learned ways to help me move through it and get back on track, quicker:

MOVE: moving is so important to getting your body and your mind back into alignment. Once I get moving, I’m already feeling better. Listen to your body and figure out what you need. Would running on the treadmill with music blasting in your headphones make you feel better or something more gentle like yoga in your living room? You do you, for you.

READ: reading helps me shift my thoughts and perspective back to positive. I am obsessed with reading books on personal development, mindset and philosophy because they help me reset my thinking. Right now I’m reading ‘The War of Art’ by Steven Pressfield.

FRESH AIR: taking a walk is my go-to when I need to shake something off and reset. Just getting outside and breathing in fresh air makes all the difference. Small things like taking my morning coffee outside onto our patio [instead of staying inside] helps reset my morning if I’m feeling off.

SELF-CARE: all of the above could be categorized as ‘self-care’ but here I’m specifically speaking about pampering yourself. Taking a bath or hot shower, or doing a face mask and watching a movie.. whatever you need to just step back, chill and relax you should do.
